The UK looks likely to introduce a 14-day quarantine for people arriving in the UK from any country, apart from the Republic of Ireland, reports the BBC. It is stated that this new quarantine measure will come into effect at the end of this month and would see people arriving in the UK forced to self-isolate at home for 14-days.
The BBC states that “Tens of thousands of people have flown into the UK during the pandemic, although the government says the vast majority were returning home.”
The government have not yet stated how long this new 14-day quarantine regulation will be in place for, or in fact if non-UK residents will be allowed to stay in rented accommodation. However, today more information from the government is expected today.
This kind of 14-day quarantine system has been in place in Croatia for weeks, and police check regularly that people who are in quarantine are actually at the address they have given.
