Experience Dubrovnik in Style With These Useful Tips

Written by  The Dubrovnik Times Dec 16, 2021

Dubrovnik is a coastal Croatian city that is most famous for its beautiful walled Old Town area. A large part of the city juts out into the beautiful blue waters of the Adriatic Sea to the south. The picturesque and idyllic city has been a holiday staple for European travelers for decades, but being used as the backdrop for many famous movies and TV shows like Game of Thrones has rocketed the small city into being a vacation destination for many more nations.

There are so many unique things to do, eat, and experience in Dubrovnik that its status as a beautiful travel destination will likely be held for a long time to come. So if you’re thinking about visiting Dubrovnik, either for a day or for a week, make sure you experience it in style with these useful tips. Start off on the right foot by leveraging some of the best luggage storage Dubrovnik has to offer so that you don’t have to worry about dragging your luggage around with you all day.

What To Do In Dubrovnik

While there are a ton of cool things to do in Dubrovnik, this creates the issue of not being able to choose easily. Here are some of the most unique experiences you can have in the city.

Walk The Walls

As one of the more famous walled cities, Dubrovnik allows visitors to walk the loop around the wall. Not only does it give you photo op after photo op of prime selfie material, you eventually will be able to get a bird’s eye view of the city itself, helping you get your bearings if you’ve just arrived. The walls have little shade, though, so be sure you either go early in the day or bring your own shade and sunscreen.

Mt. Srd Cable Car

Mt. Srd is one of the best locations to take in a Dubrovnik sunset, and while you can drive or even walk to the top, cable cars are the way to go. They are cheap, offer a 360-degree view through the glass cars, and let you kick back and relax.

Cliff Bars

Dubrovnik is home to prolific cliffs, and hidden inside some of these cliffs are “secret” bars. While they aren’t too secret anymore, the Bard Mala Buža and Buža Bar are built into the cliffs and feature some breathtaking views. Grab a drink and a cliffside table, but go to the bathroom before you get there because they don’t have one.

Private Beaches

You can either take a kayaking tour or rent a kayak from one of the many rental companies near the west harbor beach and take yourself out for a little private boating trip. You can take the kayak to one of the many gorgeous private swimming areas and a cave beach that you can only get to by kayak.

Additional kayak activities include taking the boat to one of the many areas where you can climb up the cliffs and actually jump off. You can jump into the azure waters or just enjoy the solitude that comes with the countless beaches and areas that you can row to.

Fortress Party

Nightclubs are a dime a dozen, and you can find them in any city you visit anywhere in the world. Not too many places, however, offer you the chance to dance the night away inside the angular stone walls of a 16th-century fortress. Open all night, the Revelin Culture Club is often free before midnight, which tells you when the party really gets started.

Where To Stay In Dubrovnik

As with many eastern European travel destinations, Dubrovnik offers a wide range of accommodations for those that visit. The options range from budget to luxury, so there is something for everyone.

The budget options include hostels that have some relatively nice boarding for very little money. They have spacious, open rooms, as well as rooftop views, and several of them are located right in the city center so you’re close to everything.

The midrange options include several Airbnb locations that are great for families or traveling companions. The luxury options include the Hotel Excelsior and the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, both featuring top-tier accommodations and service, but with prices that far outstrip the other options.

Even if you’ve never visited any location in eastern Europe, the city of Dubrovnik is a great place to start. It has all of the beauty that you would find in Athens or Rome, with a degree of small-town charm that you can’t beat. If you’re planning a trip to Dubrovnik, make sure you take some time to experience it in style.
