Mediterranean Fair of Healthy Food, Medicinal Herbs and Green Entrepreneurship is coming to Dubrovnik for the 15th time. It will be held in the hotel Tirena on Babin kuk from 22nd to 25th of March, or more precisely from Thrusday to Sunday. 

All these years Mediterranean Fair is gathering exhibitors, experts, sponsors and enthusiasts to make joint efforts in order to present much of the ecological and traditional products which Croatia is full of.

This specialized manifestation has become one of the most important fairs in the Republic of Croatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva County in the area of ecological and traditional agriculture as well as other green business.

-This year fair is aimed at the expansion with new products, (hybrid, electric vehicles, eco-furniture and clothing made of natural materials), the manifestation of the Days of Honey in Dubrovnik-neretva County, raising the quality of exhibitors performance, as well as raising the quality of environmental and traditionally grown products. Of course, this year we shall continue with the promotion of the marks "Originally Croatian" and "Croatian quality" aiming to present high-quality local products and we are preparing a series of educational roundtables, lectures, presentations, attractive cultural, entertaining and culinary attractions - it's stated on the Mediterranean Fair official website.

Julius Meinl found a great way to combine poetry and coffee – from 2015, every year, on March 21st, they celebrate World Poetry Day in hundreds of locations around the globe. 'Pay with a poem' is their special project that offers you an opportunity to write a poem and get free cup of coffee or tea for your masterpiece.

If you want to discover coffee shops where you can find your inner poet, go to their official web page and use a simple locator. In Dubrovnik you can 'pay with a poem' only at one place, at Caffe Bar Brazil Dvori (Masarykov put 3/B).

This fun idea was a real hit from the beginning – in 2015 more than 100 thousand people participated and we are sure that in 2018 it will be even more popular. Julius Meinel brought some changes this year.

-This year, we took this movement one step further, as we wanted to prove that poetry is the soul of music. Poetry has not always felt accessible, but music is an universal language and has the ability to help people engage with poetry in unexpected ways. This is why we joined forces with the critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter JP Cooper, who will create a song to celebrate poets from around the world – it's written on their official website.

So don't forget – on March 21st you can find your inner poet and your free cup of coffee or tea. Maybe you'll discover that you're talented.

World Happiness Report 2018 has been published yesterday and it ranked 156 countries by their happiness levels. This landmark survey of the state of global happiness is published every year around International Day of Happiness, which is marked on March 20th. This report measures subjective well-being - how happy the people are and why.

This years report discovered that Croatia gets sadder every year: it's been placed 82nd, which is 5 places lower than last year, 8 places lower than 2016 and whooping 20 places lower than 2015.

When it comes to neighborhood countries, only Bosnia and Herzegovina was placed lower in the 2018 World Happiness Report, on the 93rd place.

When it comes to the happiest countries, Finland is the winner! It was placed right before last years happiest country – Norway and 2016 happiest country – Denmark. The rest of the top ten happiest countries are Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia.

The saddest countries in the world are Burundi, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Tanzania, Yemen, Rwanda, Syria, Liberia, Haiti and Malawi.

This years World Happiness Report is special because also included a list of 117 countries, ranked by the happinest of their immigrants.

The Institute for the Restoration of Dubrovnik is the winner of the international award ‘Plautilla’, bronze plaque for the project ‘Reconstruction of the Rector’s Palace atrium, given by International Historic Cities Congress.

The award is given to cities, institutions and localities that were especially active when it comes to significant activities of protection and restoration of cultural heritage. By the decision of the jury, the International Cultural Tourism Award ‘Plautilla’ is awarded in three categories: best cultural tourist product, historical city/locality/institutions and best cultural tourist itinerary.

When it comes to best cultural tourist product, the award relates to those tourist boards, institutions, etc. for the best tourist product that is characterized by the quality and creative interpretation of the cultural and historical heritage.

When it comes to historical city/locality/institutions category, the award goes to those cities or institutions that have significant achievements in the protection and conservation of cultural heritage.
Best cultural tourist itinerary goes to those itineraries that present the cultural and historical heritage of the city or area in a high quality and interpretative way.

International Historic Cities Congress will be held for the fourth time from March 20th to March 23rd in the Hotel President Solin. Iva Carevic Pekovic, the Director of the Institute for the Restoration of Dubrovnik, will recieve the award.

Visiting Dubrovnik is always special, but if you are an adventurer there is something you wouldn’t want to miss – Moonlight hiking. 

This interesting event is organized for the third year in a row by Roki Adventure team. As they say, Moonlight hiking is meant to be a recreation in nature for all people of good will.

You can hike on the top of the mountain of Srd for free, under the full moon, on May 29th – the hike will start at 8:30 pm with licensed mountain guides.

Mountain of Srd is 412 meters high and the full moon hike is 5 kilometers or 3 miles long. You will need a few hours for this sort of adventure, so the organizers recommend that children under age 12 don’t participate.

-Wear layers, sturdy shoes, bring a flashlight / headlamp, snacks, camera as needed and minimum 1 liter of water – it’s written on the official event page.

Hikers meet at Jadranska cesta (main road) where serpentine footpath starts and ends in the Old City of Dubrovnik.

Due to weather conditions hike can be canceled at the last minute and you are advised to periodically check the official event page for the last minute hike schedule changes and also for all the additional details. 

The University of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra organize a concert in the amphitheater of the University Campus (Branitelja Dubrovnika 41) on Thursday, March 15th at noon. The goal of this collaboration is to connect young people and students with music, through popular pop and rock music, movie themes and famous Latin hits.

Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra Pops ensemble will be conducted by Slobodan Begic and Dzemal Cakic will perform as a soloist on the trumpet.

Some of the works that the audience will have the opportunity to hear are the themes from the movies Avatar, Memoirs of a Geisha, Mission, Star Wars, the Game of Thrones theme, the music of Elvis Presley, Abba, Beatles, Queen, Frank Sinatra, Coldplay, Adele and some of the famous Latin hits like such as Guantanamera, Mas Que Nada and others.

Even though the concert will be held at the University Campus, it’s still open to the public and everyone who wants to enjoy a nice music show.

In the past week in the area of Police Administration of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County there were ten traffic accidents, of which there were five with injured persons, where six persons had light injuries while five traffic accidents had material damage.

By carrying out traffic control measures, police officers have taken 463 repressive measures against the perpetrators of traffic offenses, out of which 172 measures taken due to speeding, 16 due to improper overtaking, 28 measures due to improper stop and parking, 60 measures because of non-use of the seat belt and 22 measures against drivers who were driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

This week, Police Traffic Officers will carefully monitor the use of the seat belt, enchanced surveillance starts today and will last until Sunday, March 18th – Dubrovnik Police announced.

It’s that time of the year again! All the foodies know – oysters are the best in the middle of March and there are no better oysters than those in Mali Ston.

Less than hour away from Dubrovnik, Mali Ston (literally Little Ston) is a little piece of heaven for all the oyster lovers, for which Mali Ston is famous all over the world.

It’s often said that you either love them or hate them, but either way oysters are considered to be one of the greatest delicacies that you can try during your visit to Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

The best day to try them this year is March 17th, when the Festival of Oysters will be held on the seafront in Mali Ston from 11 am. You will be able to enjoy the famous aphrodisiac and combine it with a glass (or two) of supreme wines of Peljesac and prices will be promotional.

This event will be really special, for locals and for tourists, because alongside good food and wine, there will also be Dalmatian music, a folklore performance and raffles.
