Lauda Air has cancelled all plans to launch flights this year to Dubrovnik this summer due to the Covid-19 pandemic, reports EX-YU Aviation. Lauda Air, a subsidiary of the largest low-cost airline in the world Ryanair, had planned to fly from Vienna to Dubrovnik from the 1st of August with a twice weekly service.
However, these plans have been shelved for 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the travel industry.
Dubrovnik has been particularly badly hit by the pandemic and its knock-on effect on the travel industry as the southernmost region of Croatia relies heavily on airline passengers. It is estimated that around 90 percent of tourists to Dubrovnik arrive by plane. This is in stark contrast to Istria where the majority of guests arrive by car, meaning that the region’s tourism figures aren’t so badly affected.
