Dubrovnik monument to the defenders of the Homeland War at Pile is in very poor condition and represents a danger to passers, so it was decided that the monument needs to be dismantled.
During a visual inspection of the monument, it was noted that some of the structural elements were in a very poor condition and that this posed a danger to passers. In order to avoid possible accidents, it was decided to dismantle the monument and then repair it.
The space in front of the monument is also in bad condition and will also be repaired by being paved with stone slabs.
It is expected that the dismantling of the monument will be completed by the end of the week, and the works on the dismantling, worth 106,250 kuna including VAT, will be carried out by Quelin, which participated in its erection.
The aim of this city administration is to reach an agreement, through dialogue with all veterans' associations, on a new, permanent, memorial to the defenders, which will pay respect to all those who gave their lives for the City or who were willing to do so by participating in the Homeland War.
The position of the permanent monument to the defenders will remain at Pile and there is consensus among all veterans' associations. Also, after the current monument is rehabilitated, the city administration will decide on its future micro-location in consultation with the veterans' associations.
