Dubrovnik-Neretva County to honor the heroes of Vukovar

By  Nov 15, 2019

In 1999 the Croatian government passed a decision to proclaim the 18th of November is “The Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Vukovar in 1991” in order to honour in a dignified manner everyone who took part in the defence of Vukovar.

Various events will be held in Dubrovnik to mark and remember this day. As a tribute to Croatian veterans and civilians who died in Vukovar, the victims of Vukovar will be honored in towns across Dubrovnik-Neretva County by lighting of the candles.

For all schools for which the cities and municipalities did not provide candles, this was done by the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

On Monday, organized by the city of Ploce, elementary school students will light candles in Vukovarska Street at 5:30 pm, and high school students at 6:15 pm in front of the Queen of Heaven and Earth Church in Ploce.

In Dubrovnik, candles will be lit on Vukovarska Street and on Stradun (in front of the Rector's Palace) on Monday, November 18th at 5:30 pm.

Also on Sunday, November 17th, the Association of People with Disabilities 'Friend' and Gymnasium Metkovic in Metkovic are organizing a procession of students with lighted candles.

In Korcula, candles will be lit on Monday, November 18th at the Reconciliation Square at 5 pm. In other local government units, candles will be lit according to their schedule.
