Dubrovnik brought luck to a young married couple from the United Kingdom – the Pearsons. Nelya, accompanied by her husband Thomas, is the millionth visitor of the Dubrovnik City Walls! On that occasion, the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities (DPDS), who takes care of the city's fortification system, awarded them with congratulations and gifts.
The Pearsons chose Dubrovnik as the destination for their honeymoon, while the tour of the walls was Nelya’s suggestion, which turned out to be a great one.
Representatives of the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities awarded the happy couple with souvenirs, flowers and a bottle of fine wine.
-We didn't know what was going on, we thought something went wrong, but in the end we were thrilled - said Nelya Pearson in surprise.
On the behalf of the DPDS Small Council, member Maro Kapovic shared the pleasure because of the visit of jubilee tourists was made by the member Maro Kapovic. He said that the millionth visitor arrived four days later than last year.
-That's not a big difference. We expect excellent number of visits in the post-season, during October and November, and I believe that last year's figures of 1.3 million visitors will be repeated - said Kapovic, adding that the high figures are thrilling, because of the inflow of money is used for conservation investments and the protection of cultural heritage throughout the former Dubrovnik Republic.
Kapovic also commented the current price of 200 kuna, which increased this year:
- The Walls of Dubrovnik deserve such a price and the figures show that we were right. We have pledged that we will not increase prices for the next two years, so there will be no change in price. We can see that such a decision resulted in the better flow of the walls. Tourists' visits are spread throughout the day, and we can be pleased with the investments that we will continue to make next year - concluded Kapovic.
