Dubrovnik and Game of Thrones are back for the final season, season eight, with the release date confirmed by HBO as the 14th of April and a new official trailer has been released to whet fans the appetite. The finale looks look being a grand affair and from the first glimpses of the HBO trailer Dubrovnik, which acts as the location for King’s Landing, has a front row seat for all the action.
This big finale will be the shortest series yet with only six episodes, as opposed to the normal ten episodes, although the episodes are to be longer in format around 80 minutes long.
From the official trailer released by HBO two Dubrovnik based scenes are clearly visible and they both tie in with photos that The Dubrovnik Times took on location on the ancient city walls on the 6th of February 2018. Even though the cast and crew were only in the city for a few days in appears, at least from the trailer, that the scenes will feature.
Both Jon Snow, or Kit Harrington, and Lena Headey, who plays Cersie Lannister, were spotted filming in Dubrovnik on the Old City Walls. And at the time we speculated that “Snow and Cersei will finally meet in the King's Landing, as it seems! In this scene, we Snow is sitting down, while Cersei is standing – talking to him. Does it mean he's in charge now? Who knows!”

The Mountain or Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, was also on the Dubrovnik set, which is not a big surprise, since he's always by Cersei's side. Producers David Benioff and Daniel Weiss were also spotted while filming the Cersei-Snow scene, looking quite casual and cheerful.
Although the HBO team were in Dubrovnik, or King’s Landing, for only a few days back at the beginning of 2018 strangely Dubrovnik could feature prominently in the final season as parts of the Old City of Dubrovnik were rebuilt in a huge set in Belfast, at the Titanic Studios. Filming took place in Belfast in October 2017 and from fan photos it is clear to see the stone facades of Dubrovnik in the Northern Ireland capital. Fans also spotted Kit Harrison in Belfast, tying in the Dubrovnik and King’s Landing link.

Although season eight of Game of Thrones is billed as the final season news has also broke that there might well be more GOT action on the way with a spin-off show. Head of HBO programming, Casey Bloys, stated that “you’re not going to see anything air anytime close to the season 8 finale." And it would seem that this spin-off will be a prequel and not a sequel with George RR Martin commenting that "Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel. Some may not even be set on Westeros. Rather than 'spinoff' or 'prequel', however, I prefer the term 'successor show'. That's what I've been calling them."
Could this mean that the connection between Game of Thrones and Dubrovnik will live on for another few years?
