Dubrovnik on the way to become the 'City for Children'

By  Feb 21, 2019

Dubrovnik kindergartens from 1st of April will introduce the afternoon shift and work on Saturdays in their kindergartens, as part of the "City for Children" project. In the forthcoming period, kindergartens will be provided to meet with parents who have a permanent or occasional need for these services.

The afternoon service will be introduced in the kindergartens Ciciban, Gruz, Izvidac, Kono, Palcica, Pile, Radost, Lapadski Dvori, Skatulica and Pcelica. Working Saturdays will be in the kindergartens Ciciban, Izvidac, Palcica and Pcelica, while the kindergarten on Lopud will provide service during the summer.

The project "City for children - Improvement of services and conditions for children in the system of pre-school and pre-school education in the city of Dubrovnik" was made on the basis of a previous survey conducted to define the needs of parents for the change of working time of kindergartens Dubrovnik. The results have shown, among other things, the justification for adjusting working hours of kindergartens to the actual needs of parents.

The total value of the project is 14,080,986.10 kuna and is fully funded by the European Social Fund through the Operational Program for Effective Human Resources 2014-2020. Assigned funds will be used to engage new educators needed to maintain after-school day care programs, as well as technical staff and other professional staff such as assistants, speech therapists, psychologists and educational rehabilitators. In order to improve the services, numerous trainings aimed at strengthening professional competencies will be financed by which the professional service of the kindergartens expressed their interest. Two new special programs - the Montessori program and the sports program will be developed and implemented.
