Dubrovnik General Hospital is abolishing all the cold operating procedures and is not taking any patients on elective tests in all hospital departments from Wednesday, January 23rd, because of the lack of nurses, as well as the treatment of flu-affected patients - it was comfirmed by the Director of the Dubrovnik General Hospital Marijo Bekic for Dubrovacki vjesnik.
The urology and plastic surgery departments are temporarily joined, as well as the general medicine and gastroenterology department, and all nurses are available to the principal sisters of these departments and to the assistant nursing director. These provisional measures, according to Director Bekic, will last at least two weeks, and certainly as long as they are needed.
The number of hospitalized flu-affected patients is between 50 and 60, according to the Director, depending on release and receipt of new cases.
- The problem is pneumonia that most often attacks children and immunocompromised persons. As it is already known, this year we banned visits to the hospital earlier than the previous flu season, as we have seen a rise in the number of patients. The ban is usually introduced after a flu epidemic, but many cases were not registered – Bekic commented.
The General Hospital of Dubrovnik, as Bekic confirmed, is lacking between 25 and 30 nurses today.
