On the occasion of the International Plastic Bag Free Day, the Department of Urban Planning, Physical Planning and Environmental Protection of the City of Dubrovnik organizes the distribution of ecological bags with the appropriate inscription "Dubrovnik - Grad bez plastičnih vrećica’’ (Dubrovnik - City Without Plastic Bags) on December 18th in front of Sponza Palace from 10 am to noon.
The event will also join the association "Eco Center Zeleno Sunce", Mokosica, Dubrovnik, selling its own natural products and ecological bags for humanitarian purposes.
Marking of this International Day is organized with the aim of educating the public about the harmfulness of plastic bags and replacing them. One plastic bag needs 20 to 1000 years to break down, and since recycling has not fully accepted, large quantities of bags are misplaced in the environment, on land and in the sea. Oceans now have almost 270,000 tons of plastic waste with which fish, mammals, turtles, and birds are affected, and it is quite certain that the plastic bags also affect human health.
Everybody are more than welcome to join this action that will continue during the 2019 on the other locations.
