The next steps for the Kupari resort have been taken with the investor, Avenue Group, and the government agreeing on the final version of the project. The former military complex resort which has stood empty and destroyed since the Homeland War looks likely to get a new resort consisting of luxury hotels, apartments and additional features. It is believed that the investment will be worth around a billion Kunas.
Originally it was planned that the resort would include a Ritz Carlton brand hotel but these plans have been changed and the new project has half as many accommodation units as the former plan. The key words for the new resort are luxury and size, around 200 accommodations units are included in the new plan and the room size is considerably larger than many resorts. The smallest rooms in the hotel will be a spacy 50 metres squared whilst the Presidential suite will be a roomy 200 metres squared.
"In the beginning of 2019, we are going to finish the major projects and get construction permits to begin construction in the first half of 2019," announced the investors.
They plan to maximize the engagement of Croatian companies on the project, but in some parts of the project, it will be necessary to engage the world-renowned and well-known companies. As for the interior and landscape project, they plan to hold an open tender architectural contest in the first half of next year.
Speaking to the business newspaper Poslovni the company announced that "The location and the potential of Kupari offer great opportunities, of course, and we would like to use them in the best possible way. In the year 2018, a lot of events will be taking place, with the confirmation of the final concept besides the selection of the main project manager.”
There is no news as yet as to which hotel company will run the new resort but the investors did stress that the future resort will be operated by a one of the “best hotel operators in the world.”
