The Mayor of the City of Dubrovnik, Mato Frankovic, sent congratulations to all the believers of the Islamic religion on the occasion of the important religious holiday Sacrifice Feast or Eid al-Adha. The "Sacrifice Feast", is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two. It honours the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismaeel, as an act of obedience to God's command.
- In the name of the City of Dubrovnik and in person, I send my sincere congratulations to all of Islamic faith on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the great Islamic holiday of remembering the sacrifice in memory of the Ibrahim sacrifice. May this holiday, that reminds us of the importance of charity and communion, bring a special joy and happiness and encourage us all to think about the fundamental values of mankind and the need to help and protect the weakest ones. The noble values of this great holiday should be a guiding principle for all of us, and you, believers of the Islamic faith, should bring prosperity, peace, and family communion. – wrote the Mayor in an open letter.
