Is the Dubrovnik region on the verge of Chinese investment? A high level delegation from one of the world’s leading economic countries visited Dubrovnik today and met with the County Prefect, Nikola Dobroslavić.
Zhang Chunxian, a Chinese politician and a current member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, held working meetings with Dobroslavić today and on the table for discussion were co-operation in tourism, infrastructure and projects of common interest. Chunxian noted that every year around 120 million Chinese travel the world; this is a market that Dubrovnik could make further inroads into. Chinese companies have recently shown an interest in investing into Croatia’s tourism industry. The Sun Gardens, Dubrovnik resort in Orasac, which is home to the Radisson hotel, was recently purchased by a Chinese company, although further details on exactly which company have remained a trade secret.
In addition to this the opportunities in infrastructure were also discussed with Chunxian brining up the need for better air links to China, either via charter flights or through a European hub.
The delegation will continue their working trip to Croatia tomorrow with a visit to Zagreb where they are scheduled to meet with the Croatian President, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
