The construction of the Robin Hood: Origins set in Dubrovnik go kicked up a gear today as the main street through the centre of the Old City started to get covered.
At one end of the main street, the Stradun, a rage metal construction was installed which presumably will be a large interior in the final film. And midway along the Stradun a wooden gate is being built which ties in with the large wooden set designs already placed on the stone facades. Dubrovnik is looking more and more like ancient Nottingham every day, Sherwood Forest on the Adriatic.
Filming is set to start on the 20th of February and run until the 5th of March and the stars, Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan, Welsh actor Taron Egerton and Eve Hewson. One of the executive producers of the latest Robin Hood spectacle is Leonardo DiCaprio and he former mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahusic, revealed that he is in contact with the DiCaprio’s representatives and hopes that he will make an appearance in Dubrovnik.
The scale of the set makes this one of the biggest ever in productions in Dubrovnik, a city that in recent years has played host to Star Wars and Game of Thrones. In fact the latest Star Wars – The Last Jedi – also filmed on this street; however the Robin Hood set is considerably larger than for the sci-fi blockbuster. “We have lived through Game of Thrones, Bollywood and Star Wars, but this seems like the most impressive set for a movie so far,” commented a local shop-owner for The Dubrovnik Times.
Robin Hood: Origins is set for release in the U.S on the 28th of March 2018.
