Dubrovnik took a step closer to becoming Nottingham today when work began on the second location for the filming of the new Robin Hood movie. This Leonardo DiCaprio produced blockbuster will start filming in February and the scene is already taking shape in Dubrovnik. After the set was completed in the historic port of Dubrovnik work begun today on a new scene in the very heart of the Old City of Dubrovnik. On the Stradun, the main street that thousands of tourists walk in the summer season, woodwork and set design begun today.
The Dubrovnik Times has learnt that around half of this iconic street will be used as a location for the Robin Hood: Origins movie. The Christmas decorations were being taken down as the wooden constructions for the latest Dubrovnik based film were being erected.
DiCaprio is the executive producer and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, according to reports, will play Little John. Robin Hood will be played by Welsh actor Taron Egerton, famous for his role in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Maid Marion will be played by Irish actress Eve Hewson, who is the daughter of Bono from U2. Robin Hood: Origins will be directed by Otto Bathurst. And the movie will also star 50 Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan.
After the hit serial Game of Thrones, the latest episode of the Star Wars franchise, and the Bollywood blockbuster Fan, Dubrovnik will once again be in the limelight in this star-studded action movie. The City of Dubrovnik commented that Robin Hood: Origins will surpass all previous productions in Dubrovnik, with tens of millions of dollars expected to be spent on this lavish production. The representatives of Lionsgate Films apparently commented that Dubrovnik is “the most desirable outdoor film location in the world.”
The set in the Old City of Dubrovnik harbour has already been completed.
