Vintage Car Rally Brings Classic Charm to Dubrovnik's Stradun This Saturday

Written by  Nov 04, 2024

On Saturday, November 9, the Dubrovnik Oldtimer Club will host the “Oldtimer Rally Dubrovnik '24”. Registration quickly filled up due to high interest, reaching the maximum display capacity for the city. Given that Stradun is partly under renovation, some vehicles will be displayed in front of the Rector’s Palace. Participant gathering begins at 9 a.m. at the Gruž Port parking lot, with the rally’s first leg starting at 10 a.m.

A convoy of around eighty vintage cars will journey along the Rijeka Dubrovačka, passing through Komolac and Brgat, and arrive at Srđ, where participants will visit the Homeland War Museum. The second leg continues along the recently expanded road from Bosanka to the main highway, finishing at Stradun. The vehicles will be displayed in the city center from 12:30 p.m. until dusk, while participants tour the city walls and the Indian Motorcycle Museum.

The Dubrovnik Oldtimer Rally is part of the Croatian Oldtimer Federation’s official calendar and marks the season’s end for vintage car events. Positioned between Dubrovnik’s summer season and Winter Festival, the rally aligns with the Dubrovnik Oldtimer Club’s goal of establishing the city as a distinguished automotive destination. Main sponsors include the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.

Founded in 2004, the Dubrovnik Oldtimer Club is recognized not only for this rally but also for organizing the annual spring Oldtimer Rally in Ston. An upcoming event in Konavle will soon be introduced. Vehicles must be at least 30 years old to qualify as oldtimers, with special value placed on their preservation, originality, and rarity. Leading the procession into Dubrovnik will be the honorary president of the club, Perica Deranja, with his legendary Fiat Balilla—both on the road since the 1930s.
