Roasting Chestnuts in October? Dubrovnik's Warm Autumn Twist

Written by  Oct 16, 2024

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Wait what? Yes, it may well be officially Autumn but we are a long (long) way from Jack Frost nipping at your nose.

The traditionally Christmas aroma of roasting chestnuts filled the air as the October sun beat down on the stone streets of Dubrovnik. Somehow the two just didn’t go together. It just seemed unusual this morning to see a street stand selling roasted chestnuts outside the gates into the historic city centre.

With the Indian Summer in full force and temperatures almost touching 30 degrees the warm sensation of a roasted chestnut was like selling ice-cream in the winter. However, the warm weather didn’t stop tourists from enjoying the Xmas treat.
