Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković Elected to World Heritage Cities Organization Presidency

At the regular electoral assembly of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), held in the Spanish city of Córdoba, the Mayor of Dubrovnik, Mato Franković, was elected to the presidency of this prestigious organization. Franković is one of eight members of the newly formed presidency. Bruno Marchand, the Mayor of Québec City, was elected as the organization's president.

The assembly featured panels and workshops that focused on sustainable management of World Heritage cities, affordable housing, and mobility, all key topics for historic urban areas.

In addition to Mayor Franković, Ivana Brnin, head of the Department for the Mayor's Office responsible for international cooperation, and Mihaela Skurić, director of the Institute for the Restoration of Dubrovnik, also participated in the panel discussions.

The Organization of World Heritage Cities is a partner organization of UNESCO, founded on September 8, 1993, in Morocco. It brings together 215 cities that host sites listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Of its member cities, seven are located in Africa, 38 in Latin America, 20 in Asia and the Pacific, 125 in Europe and North America, and 25 in Arab states.
