On the occasion of the passing of the long-time prominent tourism professional and author of books on Dubrovnik tourism, Nikša Bender, Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković extended his condolences to the family:
Dear family,
With the passing of Mr. Nikša Bender, the City has lost one of the most knowledgeable experts on the history of Dubrovnik tourism, one of those who, through their dedicated work, contributed to its creation and advancement.
Throughout almost his entire life, he was connected to tourism, writing about it in his retirement years, working in the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and tourist agencies before that. He initiated numerous tourism events, spearheaded the publication of the magazine "Welcome to Dubrovnik," as well as the production of the first promotional tourist film about Dubrovnik. All of this was yet another manifestation of his love for this city.
He left an indelible mark with his two publications under that title, preserving the memory of those who contributed to the development and success of tourism in Dubrovnik and Croatia. One of them undoubtedly was Mr. Nikša.
He left us with so much legacy, and his exceptional contribution to the history and affirmation of Dubrovnik and Croatian tourism is confirmed by numerous awards he deservedly received, thereby promoting the name of Dubrovnik worldwide.
On my personal behalf and on behalf of the City of Dubrovnik, I express sincere condolences to the entire family.
Mayor
Mato Franković
