Dubrovnik Introduces Cashless Payments for Public Transportation

Written by  Apr 07, 2024

In a move towards modernization and convenience, the city of Dubrovnik has successfully implemented cashless card payments across its entire public transportation network. The completion of this initiative was confirmed by Mayor Mato Franković himself, who tested the system on line 1A and found it to be flawlessly operational.

Since March 26th, commuters on all Libertas suburban lines have been able to utilize cashless payment methods. The expansion of this service to include all city public transportation lines, effective from Wednesday, April 3rd, promises to significantly streamline the boarding process and alleviate the burden on drivers when collecting fares.

Mayor Franković emphasized the importance of this advancement, particularly in light of plans to introduce a special traffic regime zone around the historic core of Dubrovnik. He sees public transportation as pivotal in facilitating movement within this zone, with continuous investment in fleet upgrades and business innovations to enhance service quality.

One such innovation is the ongoing implementation of audio-visual announcements of stops in Libertas buses, aimed at improving the overall commuter experience. According to Mayor Franković, these efforts align with the city's commitment to providing efficient and high-quality public transportation services.

Franko Mekišić, Director of Libertas Dubrovnik d.o.o., expressed confidence in the public transportation system's readiness for the upcoming tourist season. He announced plans for further fleet renewal, with the arrival of eight new vehicles expected by the end of April.
