As part of the Dubrovnik Winter Festival, on Friday, December 15th, at 12:00 in the Revelin Fortress, an exhibition titled "Hidden Treasures of Dubrovnik Cathedral – Numismatic Finds" by curator Darko Milošević will be opened by the Dubrovnik Museums. The visual arrangement was created by the director of the Dubrovnik Museums, Ivona Michl.
For the first time, the exhibition will present to the wider public the rich numismatic material found during archaeological research conducted beneath the Dubrovnik episcopal complex in the 1980s. During the research, over 700 pieces of coins were discovered, dating from the 3rd century BC to the 18th century, ranging from Greek, Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, to, of course, those of the Republic of Dubrovnik, whose remnants are the most numerous.
The broad chronological framework of the findings spanning over two thousand years once again indicates the antiquity of Dubrovnik, reaching far beyond the assumed founding in the 7th century, which historiography accepted until not too long ago. The exhibition will remain open to all visitors until the end of June 2024.
