Dubrovnik's Historic Core Transforms into an 'Unplugged' Zone

Written by  May 15, 2023

In response to the request of the citizens of the historic core, the City of Dubrovnik has initiated an urgent amendment to the current Decision on Communal Order, as well as the Decision on Catering Activities in the area of the City of Dubrovnik.

The new provisions of the Decision on Communal Order will prohibit the following:

1. The use of pallet trucks or forklifts without pneumatic tires for the transportation of goods within the historic core.

2. Speakers on facades will be removed from urban equipment, and no new ones will be allowed to be installed, while existing ones will be removed.

Furthermore, there is a significant change regarding the performance of music in public areas within the historic core. With the amendment to the Decision on Catering Activities in the area of the City of Dubrovnik, when issuing permits for music broadcasting in public areas, the use of amplified devices for music will be prohibited. Music will only be allowed to be reproduced using 'unplugged' instruments, making the historic core the first 'unplugged' zone.

Regarding the violation of noise levels in the historic core, noise meters will soon be installed, and those who violate these provisions or emit noise above the permitted level will have their lease of public space immediately terminated.
