Dubrovnik Myth Busters - You might think that the streets of the historic Old City of Dubrovnik are made of marble, an easy mistake to make. They are in fact made of limestone, by far the most common rock in this part of Croatia.
Limestone, apart from being very porous, is also rough to the touch. So the stone is polished, and you could argue continually polished thanks to sandals sliding over it in the summer.
This rather spooky chappy, which was sent to us by a reader, really highlights the porous consistency of the stone.
