Multi-functional centre to be finally built in Dubrovnik

Written by  Mar 10, 2023

The main project of the new multi-functional sports hall in Gospina polje was completed within the agreed time frame, and the application for the initiation of the building permit procedure will be submitted next week.

The contract for the development of the main project of the hall that will host the World Handball Championship in 2025 and solve the problem of indoor sports in Dubrovnik for the next 50 years, let's remind you, was signed in December last year. And it about time. Dubrovnik has been without an adequate indoor, or indeed outdoor, sports centre for decades. Until now it has all been talk and political promises that have proved to be empty. Apart from the swimming pool arena for the Jug water polo club the rest of the facilities are quite frankly embarrassing. This new multi-functional centre would solve that.

The new multifunctional facility has an area of approximately 20,000 m2, has two underground and two above-ground floors. It will have two halls for holding competitions and several auxiliary halls for club activities. The capacity of the auditorium ranges from 3,840 to 4,384 spectators, depending on the settings of the stands, while 385 parking spaces for private cars will be located in the underground garage on two floors. In addition to sports, the multifunctional space will be used for congresses, concerts and other cultural events.

With the construction of this and the renovation of the existing hall in the immediate vicinity, Dubrovnik will get an indoor complex, the first of its size in Europe, which will enable us to host numerous world indoor sports competitions in the future.
