The Charter on twinning and cooperation between the City of Dubrovnik and the City of Sorrento was signed yesterday by two mayors, Mato Franković on behalf of the City of Dubrovnik and Massimo Coppola on behalf of the City of Sorrento. This marked more than a decade of cultural and artistic, bilateral and friendly cooperation between the two cities.
"The cooperation between our two cities began primarily on a cultural basis, deepened over the years, and this twinning is a logical sequence of such cooperation, with which we will further strengthen our friendship and at the same time raise our cooperation to a higher level in the field of tourism and the quality of service provided, and in the field of culture through the exchange of our cultural workers and programs. This brotherhood will remain after us, as a pledge of the future, and I believe that our successors will also tread the same paths and refine this relationship further,'' said Mayor Franković.
The mayor of Sorrento expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and the opportunity to participate in the Festivity of St. Blaise.
"This is a historic day, today we continue what we started and create new connections, which will provide an opportunity for the development of our cooperation in the future as well. We are bound by a common history and the fact that we are blessed to live in beautiful cities under the protection of UNESCO. We are also linked by tourism, which is very important for both our cities,'' Mayor Coppola said, and at the same time announced the organization of Dubrovnik Day in Sorrento.
The decision to establish cooperation between the two cities, which officially become sister cities with this Charter, was made by the City Council of the City of Dubrovnik and the City Council of the City of Sorrento. The President of the City Council of the City of Dubrovnik, Marko Potrebica, pointed out that the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the Sorrento Dubrovnik Festival, as well as the Dubrovnik pianist Ivana Marija Vidović and conductor maestro Paolo Scibilia, are the most responsible for the intensification of cooperation between the two cities.
The president of the Sorrento City Council, Luigi Di Prisco, highlighted solidarity, togetherness and peace as what also connects the two communities and on which the relationship will be built in the future, and on the basis of the signed Agreement, the economic and any other cooperation between our two cities will be further improved.
