Last weekend two iconic cinemas reopened their doors for the summer season in Dubrovnik. Movies under the stars in Dubrovnik with the opening of the two cinemas “Slavica” and “Jadran.”
Both of these open-air cinemas in Dubrovnik have their own special characteristics. One, Jadran, is located right in the middle of the historic city centre. When was the last time you watched a movie in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and with the added bonus of being in the open night sky? The cinema is tucked between the stone façades of ancient buildings and is a rather low-key affair. Whilst you would have thought that the cinema would be packed every night for a unique movie-going experience it really isn’t, so you’ll have room to spread out.
As one comment on TripAdvisor stated “If you're looking for something low-key one night in Dubrovnik, check this out! For about 3.50EUR you can watch a movie in this outdoor theatre. They are often blockbuster movies with either English language or English subtitles. We watched "The Meg"! The seats are comfortable and the sound quality is good. You can even see little bats flying around the screen sometimes.”
And then Slavica, another iconic open-air cinema in Dubrovnik which is located near the Old City in the suburb of Boninovo and has stunning views over the Adriatic. This one gives you somewhat of breeze, like a natural air-conditioning, in the warmer summer nights. Both cinemas are currently showing the latest Tom Cruise hit "Top Gun: Maverick."
So if you are looking for a night out at the movies with a difference then an evening at either of these open-air cinemas would tick all the boxes. Of course in case of bad weather the films aren’t shown.
