St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated in full force today, not only in Ireland but all over the world, after a two-year hiatus due to coronavirus.

The festivities celebrating the Irish patron saint were among the first cancelled mass gatherings in 2020 in Ireland, when measures were introduced that closed Irish pubs and stopped international travel.

But restrictions have been lifted, and organizers of this year's celebration present it as a symbol of the country's return after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coordinators have vowed that a central parade through the streets of downtown Dublin on Thursday will be bigger and better than ever. Festival director Anna McGowan said this year's event, backed by additional city and government funding, would be a "reopening of Ireland".

Visitors to the festival are invited to bring items such as Ukrainian flags to show their solidarity after the Russian invasion of the country.

And Dubrovnik will also celebrate the day of the patron saint of Ireland with the popular Irish pub in the Old City of Dubrovnik, The Gaffe 2, preparing for a party! “We’ll have live music from 8:00pm and we’re looking forward to a great party,” said Bosko Bosnjak from The Gaffe.

And he added to us that “We’ve created a special green beer that is always popular and of course we always have a great offer of traditional Irish beers and stouts on offer.” Also there will be some prizes for guests tonight, but you’ll find out more at the event.

The Gaffe 2 is located in the heart of the Old City on Boškovićeva Street, and the St. Patrick’s Day party runs from 8.00pm till midnight.
