The popular green market in Gruž will soon have a whole new look as the City of Dubrovnik have announced that they have today initiated a public procurement procedure for the reconstruction of market. The project plans to renovate the “green market” space with modern business standards, environmentally friendly and with the appropriate infrastructure.
For years the market, which is extremely popular with both locals and tourists, has been in need of redevelopment. The enclosed fish market was recently updated and reconstructed and now the outside green market with fruit and vegetables from local suppliers is in line for a major update.

“The floor area on the market itself will be completely replaced, which includes all underground installations, while the space will be covered with large swivel awnings. Also, the market will be equipped with mobile sales tables and additional accessories. At the same time, there will be a space that will serve as a terrace for catering facilities and as a square in the afternoon, after the closing of the market. As part of the reconstruction, the surrounding floor surfaces of the sidewalk will be arranged, on which an underground waste container will be built,” stated the City of Dubrovnik.
Reconstruction works are expected to take about six months, and the estimated value of the works is around 18 and a half million Kuna. During the period that the market is being reconstructed sellers from the Gruž market will be moved to the Lapad market, which has also recently been refurbished.
