Second Dubrovnik Advent candle to be lit tonight as Dubrovnik Winter Festival continues

The second Advent candle will be lit today in Dubrovnik, in front of the cathedral, and the diverse festival weekend ahead will mark the beginning of the “Colourful Winter” program in Lapad.

The exhibition “Somewhere” by multimedia artist Ivana Pegan Baća opened at the Dubrovnik Art Gallery today at noon, and the play by A. P. Chekhov's Proposal by director Helena Petković is scheduled at 8 pm at the Marin Držić Theatre.

The award-winning program “Colourful Winter” in the Lapad will begin this Saturday.

The lighting of the second Advent candle, this candle represents Love, will be held today at 7 pm in front of the Cathedral. Prayers will be led by the parish of St. Mihajlo, and the second candle on the Advent wreath will be lit by Deputy Mayor Jelka Tepšić.


Sunday is reserved for the final exhibition of the participants of the star-making workshop with Saša Stubičar, which is scheduled for 6 pm in the summer house Bunić-Kaboga, and which is held as part of the Christmas program in Kaboga.

As for regular programs during the festival, at 4 pm, this and every following Saturday until Christmas, the Marin Držić House organizes a free thematic guided tour of the Golden Age of Dubrovnik, dedicated to the Republic of Dubrovnik in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Also, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, as part of the Saturday Morning program in the City, gives all citizens and visitors a free tourist tour of the City in Croatian or English and the performance of the Folklore Ensemble Linđo at 11:30 in front of the Church of St. Blaise. The Advent train, free for all passengers, runs along the Lapad promenade every day from 10 am to 4 pm, and in the city and suburban streets during the festival, the public will be entertained by the musical pop-up Kolenda bus with the Christmas Bear, Father Christmas and his elves. While walking through the historic centre, all lovers of good photography should not miss two photo-points, the Advent wreath on the puddle and the atrium of the Rector's Palace.
