Days of Croatian Tourism opens with panel discussion - from the new normal to normal

Written by  Oct 28, 2021

A panel discussion "From the new normal to normal - what global trends in travel will stay for good? What will change?” today opened the program of the traditional tourist event Days of Croatian Tourism, which is being held in Župa Dubrovačka today and tomorrow.

Representatives of the leading global tourism companies TUI Nordic, easyJet Holidays, Expedia and Atlantica Hotels & Resorts spoke about new and current tourist trends in the circumstances of the global pandemic and the achieved results, while a special review of Croatia, as one of the most successful European tourist destinations, was given by the director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić.

"Croatian tourism has successfully maintained positive trends in this very demanding tourist year, which has kept our country the position of the most successful and safest tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. The 83 million overnight stays that we have achieved so far this year give us optimism in the preparation and implementation of the next tourist year, during which we will, I am sure, continue with a sustainable recovery and return to pre-pandemic trends and results," said Staničić.

The Commercial Director of TUI Nordic, Tommy Serban, emphasized the fact the travellers are looking for longer stays. "In these circumstances, it is difficult to plan and define strategies in advance, which is why in order to achieve good results, you need to trust your own offer, partners, but also clients. Also, it is necessary to develop and emphasize selective forms of tourism, such as health or cycling tourism," said Serban.

Evelina Hederer, Director of Business Development at Expedia Group, one of the world's largest travel advertising platforms, also confirmed that tourist travel is becoming more intensive. “The goal of Expedia is to help clients and partners by giving them insight into market trends. In these circumstances, promotional messages are very important, which guarantee the safety, quality and good preparation of both the tourism service providers themselves and the destination as a whole. We also notice that the importance of promotion on digital communication channels will continue to grow significantly, i.e. that the activities of traditional advertising will be less and less effective," said Hederer.

Although it is hardly surprising that a digital travel platform stressed the need for more digital communication it has to be said that this move is logical. The days of travelling to exhibitions and travel fairs to publish and advertise a destination are clearly a thing of the past and the finances spent on these often expensive trips could be much better spent on improving the digital footprint.
