According to the Decision on the specific mode of operation of green markets during the announcement of the COVID-19 disease epidemic which has entered into force today, Gruz green market in the City of Dubrovnik will not be able to start working tomorrow.

Since Monday, company Sanitat has been preparing to provide the necessary conditions to allow the Gruz green market to open as soon as the National Headquarters allow it, but one criteria still needs to be fullfiled.

Specifically, market stands must be equipped with a plexiglas barrier.

-Unfortunately, in such special circumstances, it will be very difficult to reach a manufacturer who can supply us with the required quantities of plexiglas barriers at the moment, and on the other hand, we are faced with the technical problem of placing this on the stands due to the sheer weight of the material. We hope that this Decision will change, as most market managers cannot meet these requirements – director of Sanitat, Tomislav Tabak said said.

They hope for the change of this decision.

- At the moment, we are doing everything in our power to resolve this sudden situation as soon as possible and make the green market work. Everything we do, we do for the benefit of our fellow citizens, their safety and protection – Tabak concluded.

Just a reminder, all green markets have been closed at March 21st.

Dubrovnik Airport has decided to provide financial support to Dubrovnik General Hospital in its fight against coronavirus.

-As in previous years, and in these difficult times for everybody, during which the Dubrovnik Airport in Cilipi, one of the most important tickling veins of the economy of Dubrovnik-Neretva County and beyond, and especially tourism – is closed from known circumstances, when revenues were reduced to absolute zero , when we are looking for all possible ways to retain our valuable employees, we donate 200 thousand kuna to Dubrovnik General Hospital for the purchase of the necessary equipment to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Because now, that is it is the most important, the most urgent and the most necessary thing. By doing so, we want to help all the residents of our most beautiful county of Croatia and preserve the stability of health care in our area – it's published at the Facebook page of Dubrovnik Airport and signed by the Director Frano Luetic.

Dubrovnik Airport has been closed from March 19th after the first case of COVID-19 was discovered with an employee of Dubrovnik Airport. It is supposed to stay closed to all national and international flights until April 15th.

On the occasion of the biggest Jewish holiday of Pesach, Mayor of the City of Dubrovnik Mato Frankovic sent a congratulatory note to the President of the Jewish Community in Dubrovnik, Sabrina Horovic, and to all fellow citizens of the Jewish religion:

“Dear Mrs. Horovic,

on the occasion of the greatest Jewish holiday of Pesach, to you and to all members of the Jewish Community of Dubrovnik on behalf of the City of Dubrovnik and on my behalf I want to wish you a happy Pesach.

The Feast of Pesah symbolizes the exodus of Jews from Egyptian slavery and the joy of freedom achieved. Freed, both from external and internal spiritual bondage, one can receive the law of God and make the decision to live according to his principles. Freedom is the fundamental value of human life, and it is on this solemn day that believers thank God for deliverance from darkness, cold and fear, for the awakening of a new life and a new beginning.

While we are currently living in sensitive and unknown conditions, we value and desire freedom more than ever. We need faith, hope, comfort and light. Human nature is turned to itself, to its individual personal good, to its interest. Now is a good time to remind ourselves to show fellowship in order to overcome all the bad things we face, help our neighbor in the most difficult times, and build peace with people and with God. May this holiday bring you plenty of peace, health and further progress.

Hag Pesah Sameah!''

Sky has prepared a show for the world last night with the Super Pink Moon and thanks to the photographer Tonci Plazibat, we can share a bit of Dubrovnik magic with you.

As NASA writes, The Maine Farmer's Almanac first published "Indian" names for the full Moons in the 1930's. According to this Almanac, as the full Moon in April and the first full Moon of spring, this is the Pink Moon, a name that comes from the herb moss pink, also known as creeping phlox, moss phlox, or mountain phlox, which is native to the eastern USA and one of the earliest widespread flowers of Spring. Other names for this Moon include the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Fish Moon, as this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

-This full Moon is a supermoon. The term "supermoon" was coined by the astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full Moon that occurs within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. Under this definition, in a typical year there can be 3 or 4 full Supermoons in a row and (about half a year apart) 3 or 4 new Supermoons in a row. In practice, what catches the public's attention are the full Moons that appear biggest and brightest each year. For 2020, the four full Moons from February to May meet this 90% threshold, with the full Moons in March and April nearly tied in size and brightness – NASA explains, adding that this full Moon was slightly closer to the Earth (about 0.1 percent) than the March full Moon was, so this is the "most super" of the full supermoons this year.

Traditionally, before Easter, Mayor Mato Frankovic met with Bishop of Dubrovnik Mato Uzinic, and the manager of the Episcopal House, Don Hrvoje Katusic, at the Bishop's Palace in the City.

With the talk about coming holiday, the current theme of coronavirus could not be avoided this year. In this regard, the mayor praised the Diocese's initiative of broadcasting mass celebrations live through the media.

The social measures currently being implemented by the City of Dubrovnik primarily for its socially disadvantaged citizens were discussed, and the Bishop also reported on the activities of Caritas, which helps the people in need.
In addition to their wishing of the blessed Easter, messages were sent to fellow citizens to celebrate Easter at home in a close family circle.

The fire that started on Sunday morning on the island of Korcula, at Smokvica County, is now under control and somewhat stable, according to the information on the official Facebook page of the County published at 10 am.

Citizens of Korcula decided to honor all the firefighters that fought against this hard and challenging fire. The Facebook page Vatrogasci – Oni su naši Heroji (Firefighters – they are our heroes) shared a photo from the air, showing the words HVALA VAM (Thank you) with the heart spelled on one of the houses.

After several locals spotted lynx in the village not far from Ogulin last November, which is unusual given that young lynxes do not approach the populated areas, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy's Emergency Response Team reacted fast.

All indicated that the cub had lost its mother and that without human assistance it would not survive, so the members of the hunting club "Srnjak" Zagorje, following the instructions of the Intervention Team, monitored the movement of the lynx and reported its location.

-We found the location where the lynx was coming from and caught it. The animal was very starved and needed an urgent help. It was found to be a female cub about six months old and weighing six kilos - said Vedran Slijepcevic, a member of the Wolf and Lynx Intervention Team and a lecturer at the Polytechnic of Karlovac.

Symbolically, the lynx was named Martina because it all happened on Saint Martin's Day.

In order to increase her chances of survival, but also not to get her used to the people, the lynx was immediately transferred to a special residence in Risnjak National Park where she was taken care of by the park staff with the professional support of the Zagreb Zoo and experts for large beasts.

At the beginning of February this year, it was estimated that Martina recovered well and weighed 13 kilos, indicating that it could return to nature. However, due to poor dental medical picture, the release of the lynx into nature was delayed. In particular, the canines that are essential for eating in nature have been broken.

After a thorough dental examination and detailed X-rays at the Clinic for Surgery, Orthopedics and Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb, a treatment plan was devised.

For the first time in Croatia, a procedure for cleaning and filling of dental canals and strengthening and reconstruction of canines was performed on the lynx. The complex procedure lasted almost ten hours.
From the surgery, Martina recovered quickly and was released into the wild three weeks ago.

Thanks to the telemetry collar, researchers are constantly monitoring the movement of the lynx, as well as diet and health. Martina is currently hunting mostly smaller prey such as birds, rodents and small carnivores, because it needs more experience for the larger one. The lynx is in good health and will soon celebrate its first birthday.

There are between 40 and 60 lynxes in Croatia, and every single one is precious. In order to strengthen their population, new units from Slovakia and Romania are moving in as part of the LIFE Lynx project.
