The current situation with the coronavirus pandemic has not significantly disrupted the works on the construction of the Peljesac Bridge and access roads. There are 614 workers on site, and work is underway with all precautions issued by the National Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia - Croatian Roads reported.
- There are challenges, but for now, we, and above all the performers, are making things work. While a great part of the economy is standing or slowing down due to the pandemic that has hit us, these projects are progressing very well - said Josip Skoric, CEO of Croatian Roads.
Last week, workers at the Strabag Company began work on drilling the main pipe of the Debeli brijeg tunnel in the Dancanje area, and parallel work is being done on the route from the tunnel to the junction with the existing D414 road going over the island of Peljesac. The tunnel is 2,467 meters long and is being worked on as part of the construction of the 2nd section of the access road to the bridge.
Staying at home is easy if you have a good, loving relationship with your flatmates, but after couple of weeks of isolation things might get a bit tricky!
One funny story comes from Slavonia. As one reader tells the SiB.hr website, his neighbor has been married for thirty years, and he lives in harmony with his wife. At least that's what they believed while it was all normal and they could leave their home during the day.
The reader asked SiB.hr to keep the exact name of the village (it is a place near Osijek) secret so that he can preserve good neighborly relations.
So, the mentioned husband, decided to move from a long and harmonious marriage to his own oasis. He erected a tent near his own house, set up a "terrace" in front, because he could no longer stand to be with his wife in the house.
As the reader explained to SiB.hr, his neighbor is happy again and has been in excellent relations with his wife since he was in the tent.
-The neighbor has been in his tent for a few days now. He put a table, chairs in front of it, and occasionally our other neighbor comes over to drink some brandy. I visited him, too, and he says he has a great relationship with his wife now. He was bored, and says that 24/7 is way too much for him – SiB.hr reader wrote.
We don't know if this story is true but it has a happy end and it made us laugh – and that's what all of us need during these challenging times. Share your marriage isolation stories with us!

A lot of strange things arrived with the coronavirus pandemic and the empty streets of Dubrovnik are just one of them. Just a couple of weeks ago, it was strange to imagine the Old City without people – exploring, walking and collecting memories.
But that's just the way it is. Dubrovnik sleeps. Let's be silent and careful – we don't want to wake up the City before all is safe and well. Let it rest. Let it relax. It will soon be full of people again, even more beautiful than before.
VSP Video Dubrovnik captured the sleepy Dubrovnik, so we can remember it when it all comes back to normal. Take a look at their beautiful video below.

Dubrovnik monument to the defenders of the Homeland War at Pile is in very poor condition and represents a danger to passers, so it was decided that the monument needs to be dismantled.
During a visual inspection of the monument, it was noted that some of the structural elements were in a very poor condition and that this posed a danger to passers. In order to avoid possible accidents, it was decided to dismantle the monument and then repair it.
The space in front of the monument is also in bad condition and will also be repaired by being paved with stone slabs.
It is expected that the dismantling of the monument will be completed by the end of the week, and the works on the dismantling, worth 106,250 kuna including VAT, will be carried out by Quelin, which participated in its erection.
The aim of this city administration is to reach an agreement, through dialogue with all veterans' associations, on a new, permanent, memorial to the defenders, which will pay respect to all those who gave their lives for the City or who were willing to do so by participating in the Homeland War.
The position of the permanent monument to the defenders will remain at Pile and there is consensus among all veterans' associations. Also, after the current monument is rehabilitated, the city administration will decide on its future micro-location in consultation with the veterans' associations.
