Due to the good epidemiological situation, the revival of one of our most important economic branches is expected - tourism. Currently, 363 hotels and 218 camps are open across Croatia. In the first 10 days of June, half a million overnight stays were achieved, and the first important tourist - extended weekend is upon us with today a national holiday in many countries.
The tourist situation up and down the country is a very different picture. Dubrovnik, the Dalmatian coast and the south of Croatia are all still without any large numbers of tourists, whilst Istria and Kvarner are relatively busy. In fact, almost all of the half million overnight stays were achieved in these two regions, proving that 2020 will be a tough one for the tourism industry of the south of Croatia.
“We have a little more than 65,000 guests in Croatia at the moment, and through the Enter Croatia application we have announcements that in the next few days 160,000 tourists will arrive, and these are only those who have been announced through the application. There are others who are not even aware that it exists,” said Tonći Glavina, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism.
Of the tourist countries in the Mediterranean, only Croatia and Greece are currently increasing the number of tourist arrivals and overnight stays.
Whilst more and more hotels are opening in the Dubrovnik region they are still relatively empty, mainly due to the fact that the vast majority of tourists who come to Dubrovnik arrive by plane and international airlines are still to launch flights. Whereas Istria and the north of Croatia which are easily reached by car from many European cities are seeing a rise in guest numbers.
