At the end of March, more than 143,000 persons were registered in the unemployment register of the Croatian Employment Service. And just to highlight the negative effect that the coronavirus pandemic is having across the country in the past 15 days alone 13,264 people have been registered as unemployed.
As of the 16th of March there were 134,717 people registered as unemployed, but by the end of the month, the 31st of March that number had soared to 143,545.
Although March is usually the month in which employment is growing, especially in the seasonal jobs in tourism and trade, data for the second half of last month shows that these activities, especially tourism, are most affected by the coronavirus crisis, as the most frequently recorded unemployed people are precisely from tourism.
The long-term effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the Croatian economy are difficult to predict, however it is certainly a situation that will negatively affect the vast majority of all businesses in the country.
