The European Union has raised the alert level for the coronavirus from moderate to high. At a press conference on Monday the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reiterated that the virus is continuing to spread.
“ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) has announced today that the risk level has risen from moderate to high for people in the European Union, in other words, the virus continues to spread," commented von der Leyen.
The majority of cases of coronavirus in Europe have been seen in Italy, however there are over 2,000 confirmed cases of which nine are in Croatia.
The EU’s Crisis Management Commissioner, Janez Lenarčič, stated that “While we should not give in to panic, the situation is likely to still get worse. So we need to be prepared. Time is of the essence here.”
