The Museum Documentation Centre published information on visitor numbers from 2019 and the most visited museum in the country last year was the Archaeological Museum of Istria with 575,294 visitors.
There are 160 museums throughout Croatia and 134 were included in the data collection from last year.
In 2019 the museums of Croatia were visited by 5.23 million people, which was 211,000 fewer than in 2018.
The most visited museum in Croatia in 2019 was the Archaeological Museum of Istria, followed by the Split City Museum with 389,814 visitors and the Klovicevi Dvori Gallery in Zagreb came in third position with 353,262 visitors.
Permanent collections saw the biggest increase in the number of visits, by 200,000 compared with 2018, to which contributed an increase of 160,000 in the number of foreign tourists.
