Cigarette prices in Croatia could soon rise

By  Jan 27, 2020

Cigarette prices in Croatia could soon rise after the government proposed a new increase in duty. A packet of 20 cigarettes could soon rise in price by two Kuna a packet, meaning a packet a day smoker would be paying an extra 14 Kunas, or around 2 Euros, a week.

According to the proposal of the new regulation on Excise Duty on Tobacco and Tobacco Products, it is proposed that the excise duties on cigarettes from the current 335 Kuna per thousand items be raised to 375 Kuna.

The consultation on the proposal for the regulation will last until February 3, which means that it can be adopted at any government session and can take effect very soon. The governments point out that the proposal transposes the European Directive on the structure and rates of excise duties applicable to processed tobacco, but also to new products such as heated tobacco and e-cigarette liquids.
