On the occasion of the taking over of the presidency of the Republic of Croatia of the Council of the European Union, the Brussels symbol Manneken Pis has a Croatian feel as he has been dressed in Croatian national costume.
The world famous Brussels statue was created in 1619 by the sculptor Hieronimus Duquesnoy. The statue has been altered several times and the present statue is a copy made in 1965. The original is kept in Maison du Roi.
Manneken Pis is dressed in costumes, several times each week, according to a published schedule, which is posted on the railings around the fountain. Since 1954, the costumes are managed by the non-profit association The Friends of Manneken-Pis, who review hundreds of designs submitted each year, and select a small number to be produced and used.
