Ever closer links between China and Croatia expected after major conference in Dubrovnik

By  Sep 19, 2018

A major conference is being held in Dubrovnik, which brings together China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries. Tourism ministers and tourism workers from these countries are discussing co-operation in their respective sectors. Today, the working part of the conference will, among other things, hold a bilateral meeting of the Croatian and Chinese delegations, where the ministries will sign a cooperation agreement.

“The main destination of Chinese tourists is Europe, and they traditionally visit several countries as part of their stay. They travel all year long and are interested in cultural and historical sights and natural beauties, so visiting Croatia they most frequently visit Zagreb, the Plitvice Lakes and Dubrovnik. Although the number of Chinese tourists is still not large, their growth is considerable. So last year they were 60 percent more, and a similar number is expected this year,” commented the Croatian Minister of Tourism, Gari Cappelli.

Earlier in the meeting the Chinese tourism minister, Lu Shugang, said that Croatia has rich tourist resources and a beautiful landscape. "You are as crowned as the pearl of the Mediterranean," he said.

In the first eight months of 2018, Zagreb recorded 34,000 arrivals and 51,000 guest nights from China.
