Croatians workers send millions to their homeland from Germany

Written by  Sep 05, 2018

Numerous Croatians have left their homeland and went to Germany, but that doesn't mean that they are still not connected with their country, which is clear from the data of the German Bundensbank. Their numbers show that foreign workers sent impressive amount: 4.6 billion euros in their home countries last year, mostly to family members who remained there – Index.hr reports.

When it comes to citizens of Croatia who live and work in Germany, in 2017 they sent 187 million euros to their country. That amount increased during the years – just for comparison, in 2013 it was 121 million.
The German newspaper Reinische Post also warns that this Bundesbank official data certainly does not include all the money that foreign workers in Germany send to their families because money is not always necessarily sent through bank accounts.

However, Croatians are not on the first place when it comes to sending money to their homes - Polish workers have sent up to 440 million euros in 2017, Latvians 353 million, and Romanians 333 million. On the fourth place there are Greeks with 191 million euros sent to their homeland. Croatians are on the fifth place, but if we take into account the number of residents of these countries, Latvians and Croats are in the first and second place – Index.hr writes.
