Croatia in the world’s top 10 unconventional family destinations

Croatia as a tourist destination still attracts American travelers seeking luxurious and detailed planned trips. That are the results of analyzes in the family travel segment based on current and anticipated travel reservations by Virtuoso, one of the most influential American tourist subjects in the world specialized luxury and experiential travel. Virtuoso experts have classified Croatia among the top 10 countries in the category of unconventional family destinations that offer authentic experiences. That is really significant, especially when you know the fact that among the top 10 countries in this category, along with Croatia, there is only one European country, Island.

-The results of the Virtuoso analysis are particularly delighting because they point to Croatia's excellent position on the big US market. It is important that in the US market we are recognized as a tourist destination with a variety of offers that includes quality, richness and originality. Croatia has so far been recognized as a family-friendly destination in Europe, and we are indeed beyond European frameworks, what is confirmed by the analysis of Virtuoso, one of our key partners in the US market with whom we have excellent cooperation - said the director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Stanicic, adding that the latest TOMAS summer survey showed that American tourists are at the top of tourist spending in Croatia, which on the daily level amounts to almost 160 euros.

A special review in the Virtuoso report refers to the analysis of the segment of young passengers – so called Generation Z, which make more than a quarter of the US population with an estimated $ 43 billion buying power. These are generations that have a strong impact on family travel decisions and for generations seeking active experiences, unusual destinations and experiences that can be shared through social networks. The analysis is also focused on key travel motives, particularly in the segment of luxury family travels where Virtuoso, along with its network of associates worldwide, specializes. The main motives of travel in 2018 are family trips, exclusive trips - villas, yachts, as well as luxurious sea and cruise cruises, active and adventure trips, eno-gastronomy and cultural tourism, resort holidays, educational trips and travel motivated special occasions such as honeymoon or celebration of different anniversaries.

These positive trends are also confirmed by the recently published Virtuoso Luxe Report 2018, an annual research that brings key trends and insights into the luxury travel industry. In this research, Croatia has been ranked among the top 10 destinations in three categories, with progress on the scale compared to the 2017 survey results. Our country is ranked 2nd in the category of the most popular emerging destinations, while in the category of the most popular destination for the so called Millenials is on the 6th place and 8th place in the category of the most popular international destination.

Additionally, it's good to know that in 2017, 476,000 arrivals (+ 35%) and 1.3 million overnight stays (+ 34%) came from the US market, while in 2018 there were 118,000 arrivals (+ 25%) and 300,000 overnight stays (+ 16%) for now.
