The number of cruise ships and passengers in Dubrovnik might be frustrating during the summer season but it seems that there were less than last year, especially during the height of the summer.

In August, 96 foreign cruise ships arrived in the Croatian Adriatic, 22 percent less than in the same month from last year, which is the sixth consecutive month that the number of cruise ships sailing in the Adriatic has fallen, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The CBS data also shows that in August 143 thousand passengers arrived on these ships, which is about 27,500, or 16 percent, less than last year.

In the first eight months of this year there were 16.2 percent less cruise ships when compared to the same period from 2016. A total of 431 cruise ships was recorded, which is 87 less than in the same period last year. And consequently the number of cruise ship passengers is down on last year, over the first eight months 610,000 passengers arrived which is 92,000 less than in 2016.

Somewhat unsurprisingly the most popular port for cruise ships is the first eight months was Dubrovnik with 355 out of the total 431 cruise ships docking.
