The Croatian shipyard Brodotrogir stated on the 8th of February that the company laid the keel, thus launched the construction of an icebreaking tanker for Arctech Helsinki Shipyard from Finland.
The contract, worth 28 million Euros for the construction of a part of the ship was concluded in July 2016; the project is to be finished within a year.
The front section of the ship will be 167 metres long, 32,5 metres wide, 18 metres high with a draught of 11,7 metres, whilst a total load capacity of the ship will be 44,000 tons. On the otherhand, a shipyard in Finland will construct the rest of the icebreaker.
The ARC7 ice-class tankeris being built under the dual class Bureau Veritas and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
As far as the book of orders is concerned, the capacity of Brodotrogir shipyard is fully booked. Apart from the Arctic tanker – icebreaker for the Finish orderer, the company is equipping two tankers for the Viterlef Management Ltd company which are by the main characteristics very similar to Brodotrogir's chemical tankers.
The Croatian shipyard also states that there are possibilities for additional employment as well as for providing operations for other companies in Croatia engaged in the shipbuilding industry.
