Croatia saw a rise in construction activity last year, with 7,032 buildings completed, a 3.3% increase compared to 2022. In the same period, 16,552 new apartments were built, marking a 4.3% growth, according to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
Of the total completed buildings, 86% (6,027) were residential, while 14% (1,005) were non-residential. The average usable space of these new apartments was 90.5 square meters.
Most of the apartments, 93%, were new constructions, while 6% resulted from the expansion or upgrading of existing buildings. Additionally, 1% were created by converting non-residential spaces into apartments. Among the completed apartments, 16,496 were for permanent living, and 56 were designated as vacation homes.
Zagreb Leads in Construction
Zagreb led in apartment construction, with 2,945 new units. Following closely were Istria County with 2,878 and Zadar County with 2,554 new apartments. In Split-Dalmatia County, 2,192 new apartments were completed. The fewest new apartments were built in Virovitica-Podravina (48) and Požega-Slavonia counties (57).
