Croatia Sees July Unemployment Rise After Five-Month Decline, Despite Year-on-Year Drop

Written by  Aug 16, 2024

According to the latest data from the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), July saw an increase in the number of registered unemployed persons on a monthly basis after five consecutive months of decline, reports tportal.

On the other hand, the year-on-year decline in registered unemployed persons continued for the fortieth consecutive month. Compared to July 2023, the number of registered unemployed persons decreased by 15,976 or 15.4%. This is the strongest year-on-year decline since June 2022, when the labour market's recovery from the pandemic was still notably affecting annual changes.

Compared to June, there was an increase of 2,957 registered unemployed persons, or 3.5%. The monthly rise in unemployment is not surprising, given that hiring for the peak tourist season was already secured in previous months, according to analysts from Raiffeisen Bank.
