Shooter Miran Maričić has earned Croatia's first medal at the Olympic Games in Paris, securing a bronze in the 10-metre air rifle event.
Maričić achieved a score of 230.0 points, placing third in the highly competitive discipline. Fellow Croatian, Petar Gorša, also performed admirably, finishing in sixth place with a score of 165.6 points.
The gold medal was won by China's Lihau Sheng, who set a new Olympic record with a score of 252.2 points. Sheng's remarkable performance also saw him leading the qualification round.
Sweden's Victor Lindgren claimed the silver medal with a score of 251.4 points, rounding out the podium in a thrilling conclusion to the event.
In addition to his medal, Maričić received a financial reward from the Republic of Croatia amounting to 18,500 euros. According to the regulations, an Olympic gold medal garners 41,000 euros, silver 26,000 euros, and bronze 18,500 euros.
