Exciting Euro Opener: Croatia vs. Spain Clash in Berlin Stadium!

Written by  Jun 12, 2024

After the official opening of the European Championship, Croatia and Spain will play the first match of Group B. The match will be held at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Saturday at 6 p.m.

In the group with Croatia and Spain, there are also Italy and Albania. Their match will be played on the same day at 9 p.m. In the round of 16, the first and second-placed teams from each group will advance, as well as the four best third-placed teams.

Croatia has made an impressive build-up to the championship with two victories in friendly matches against North Macedonia and Portugal. The first victory of the Croatian team in Portugal was particularly notable as it served as an excellent test before facing Spain.

On the second day of the Euros in Berlin, Croatia will face the group favourite and one of the favourites for the entire tournament. Many thought, after the draw, "here come the Spaniards again", who shattered the dreams of the Croatian national team last year in the UEFA Nations League final, winning the title only after a better performance in the penalty shootout.

Before that, we remember well the last Euros, where the Spaniards knocked out Croatia in that crazy 5-3 match when La Furia only managed to break the resistance of the Croatian team in extra time.

"We'll need a solid block. Against Portugal, we conceded a cheap goal, we have to close better. We must not fall apart; we need to be compact. We must know what we want at every moment. So far, we haven't trained set-pieces, but we'll work on that. We'll work on technical and tactical aspects, and we'll see about the line-up," coach Dalić announced ahead of the match.

He added that “Our main goal is to advance from the group; we'll take it step by step. We won't put pressure on ourselves; we'll go slowly and patiently. I believe in this team and these players. We have a blend of youth and experience. We believe in what we're doing and hope for a good result."
