This Saturday and Sunday, when the cable car ride to Sljeme was free, there was unsurprisingly a fivefold increase in citizens' interest compared to other weekends. The total number of passengers reached around 25,000 passengers, whereas the usual count is 5,000 passengers, as reported on Sunday by the City of Zagreb.

“The Sljeme cable car has transported nearly 10,000 passengers for free by 3 p.m. today, and it is expected that this number will increase to 15,000 by the end of the day. This means that the total number of passengers this weekend could reach 25,000, compared to the usual 5,000 passengers on weekends,” emphasized the Zagreb city administration.

At the same time, the public city transport company ZET doubled tram and bus capacities today compared to yesterday, as a significantly larger number of Sljeme visitors used public transport on Sunday. Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević decided on Friday that the cable car ride would be free this weekend.

In addition to the free cable car, sledding tracks on Sljeme are open, including night sledding, and on Sunday and Monday, skiing is also free. The tracks have been additionally snowed, as a prelude to the official opening of the ski season on Tuesday, January 23, highlighted by the City of Zagreb.
