According to the corruption perception index in 2022, Croatia improved its position by six places and is now 57th out of 180 countries, Transparency International announced on Tuesday.

This year's Croatian index is 50, which is three points more than last year. This is the best result since 2015 on the corruption perception index.

Neighbouring Italy and Slovenia are better than Croatia, sharing 41st place with 56 points.

According to the corruption perception index, Montenegro is worse with 45 points, Hungary with 42 points, and Serbia has fallen by five places and is now 101st with 36 points.

Among Croatia's neighbours, Bosnia and Herzegovina is the worst with 34 points, making it the third worst country on the continent (110th place in the world), only Ukraine (116th place) and Russia (137th place) are worse.

Among the members of the European Union, Croatia is better than Hungary (77th place), Bulgaria (72nd place) and Romania (63rd place). And as far as the bigger countries in Europe are concerned Germany is ranked in 9th place, the United Kingdom in 18th place and France in 21st position. And on the global stage the US is in 24th position, China in 65th and India in 85th position on the new list just released.

The most transparent countries in 2022 are again Denmark, Finland and New Zealand. Denmark has one point more than last year (90), and Finland and New Zealand lost a point (87).

Somalia is in last place with only 12 points.

The corruption perception index is based on a combination of data and analyzes of international institutions that determine the perception of corruption in the public sector through the eyes of business people, analysts and experts.

The results are presented on a scale from 0 to 100, with a score of zero indicating high corruption in the country, and a score of 100 being the highest possible.
